Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.
- Sean Deone is right that the non-fiction book market is collapsing, but not for the reason you think. Non-fiction is about learning things, and there are perfectly valid ways to learn stuff online which don’t involve buying a book. I am talking about things like courses, not TikTok videos or other bite-sized pieces of information.
- Oxford University Press just released the results of a survey on academics using AI.
- The most interesting result wasn’t actually in the survey; it was a news story about an AI company which had stolen (my word, and not the victim’s) the work of a mathematician and threatened him.
- Ed Nawotka takes a look at how the publishing industry is using AI.
P.S. This week’s post is heavy on AI, alas.
