Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.

  • Hugh Howey points out how thanks to AI we are leaving the era where writing a book was expensive but publishing it was not. (Actually, writing the book is still going to be expensive, but now you can use AI to cheaply produce a book you did not write.)
  • A $2 million book deal fell through because of accusations of AI use.
  • Marlee Baldridge explains how authors can fact check the science in their stories.
  • Here are five self-publishing mistakes that cost authors dearly.
  • Nathan Bransford reminds us that authors need to know their book’s genre.
  • While we are on the topic, I think Authors should also know the difference between the genre of a book’s setting and the genre of its story. (I have an unpublished blog post about this.) For example, the first Terminator movie is a horror story in an SF setting. Or, to give you another example, the author Lois McMaster Bujold uses a space opera setting to write romance, mystery, and space opera novels.

Hi, I'm Nate.

I build and fix websites for authors, and I am also a tech VA. I can build you a website that looks great and turns visitors into fans, and I can also fix your tech when it breaks. Let me fight with tech support so you don't have to.

My blog has everything you need to know about websites and online services. Don't see what you need. or want personalized help? Reach out.
