Morning Coffee – 2 November 2026

by Nate Hoffelder

After a decade of running The Digital Reader, Nate is a veteran web publisher with experience in design, maintenance, recovery, and troubleshooting. What little he doesn't know, he can learn.

November 2, 2026

Here are a few stories to read this Monday morning.

  • The Kindle Android app now accepts hand written notes.
  • Over on Bluesky John Scalzi shared the contract language he uses to prevent publishers from feeding his work into AI.
  • Calibre now has decent sounding text to speech functions.
  • Wikipedia has a serious issue when it comes to “notability”. I get that they want to limit their site to important topics, but that term is so vague that determining a subject’s notability really comes down to internal Wiki editor politics. (paywalled, sorry – Instapaper is your friend)
  • Readwise is moving from being a set of tools for power readers to being a more direct competitor to the Kindle. This is kinda cool (I haven’t seen any really interesting innovation in the ebook space in over 5 years).
  • Kindle Unlimited is now Kindle+, and now it comes with AI audiobooks.

P.S. My apologies for the lack of a post last week; it turns out that flying home is a lot more energy draining than driving.
